Nurses based at UWE’s Gloucester campus graduated from the city’s cathedral for the first time last week.

In previous years, students studying in Gloucester had to venture to Bristol for their graduation ceremony.

Associate Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr Rachel Sales, said moving the ceremonies to Gloucester meant students’ successes could now be celebrated in the city in which they studied.

The decision was met warmly with students, as Marie Pritchard, third year nursing student, said: “It’s a lovely way to finish our student nurse journey. Having worked and studied in Gloucester for the past three years, we now have the fantastic opportunity to celebrate our graduation at Gloucester Cathedral.”

Almost 60 students picked up their degrees in front of over 200 friends and relatives in the historic cathedral.
